There are many different meanings for the word paradise but the majority describe a state of extreme beauty or enjoyment. It can also be the ideal place for a particular activity or a particular hobby. For example golfers' paradise or a hummingbird's. In a religious context it can refer to heaven, which is the heaven where the righteous go after they die.
Many languages have utilized the word paradise, but it was originally derived from the ancient Iranian language of Avestan. The word is pairidaeza or "walled enclosure," from the roots pairi, "around," and daeza, "wall." It became part of the Hebrew and other Aramaic texts as paradeisos, and later was later adapted to Greek, where it became paradise.
In the Bible The Bible describes paradise as the Garden of Eden, where the first couple lived in a gorgeous environment that was free from diseases and death. After they disobeyed God and sinned they lost their paradise. In later Bible prophecies paradise is an area where the happy human race will be forever. The word paradise can also be a reference to a state of happiness, either psychological or spiritual, and happiness.
A place to play
Totopia is a brand new addition to the Children's Museum of Sonoma County, opening this week inside their west Santa Rosa campus. It is a side room of their well-known Science and Imagination gallery, designed for infants and toddlers up to 35".
